Purchasing care at home can be done in a number of ways.
Self funding home care
The easiest and most straight forward way of funding domiciliary care is to ‘self-fund’, purchasing the private care through a home care provider. The senior care provider can discuss with you the terms of doing so, however there is likely to be some slight differences from provider to provider.

Local Authority funding assistance
An alternative way is that you may be eligible for Local Authority assistance and they will fund all or part of the home care provision required. You will need to have a ‘needs assessment’ to clarify how much funding you are eligible for. If you think this maybe an option for you we suggest you make contact with the Local Authority to arrange an assessment by a Social Worker.
Choosing your home care provider
If you are eligible for Local Authority funding you will be offered care through the approved network of domiciliary care providers. If you do not wish to use any of the care providers offered you can request a Direct Payment. A Direct Payment is when the money the Local of Authority would use to purchase care on your behalf is given to you directly. This then enables you to ‘shop around’ to purchase care either from another care agency, a number of providers, or even employ your own caregiver to meet your needs.
