With the start of the new financial year we see the National Minimum Wage (NMW) increase giving nearly 4 million people in the UK getting a pay rise.
The National Living Wage, which is for those aged 25 and over, is rising by 38p (4.8%) an hour from £7.83 to £8.21. This year also marks 20 years since the National Minimum Wage was created, according to the Resolution Foundation. Its research shows that over the past 20 years, the National Minimum Wage has risen from £3.60 an hour in April 1999 to £8.21 on Monday 1st April 2019.
Unfortunately social care has historically, and continues to be, relatively poorly paid compared too many other sectors, however the NMW has made a difference to that throughout the industry.

With starting hourly rates of £8.34 in Extra Care Housing and £8.53 for those working within the Taunton Community based services. Further enhancements are offered at weekends, up to a rate of £9.90. Our staff operating in Bath benefit from a starting hourly rate of £9.50 weekdays and up £11.66 for weekend enhancements. Furthermore we have recently increased our mileage payment to all community based members of staff to 45p per mile – the highest rate available without incurring tax.
