Way Ahead Care was started by Pam Smith in 1994. At the time, Pam was working within a care home called Wey House and a male resident wanted to return to his home and receive his care there instead.

Pam facilitated this move and from this started providing further home care services to one or two other individuals.

Our Story at Way Ahead Care

Further to this the owner of the Care Home wished to sell the home but thought that the care services Pam was delivering in the community would not be appealing to a perspective buyer. As a result the owner transferred this small service to Pam to run as a separate business – and Way Ahead Care was created.

Over the years Way Ahead Care has grown. It first became a Strategic Partner for Somerset County Council in 1999 and then again in 2004. Way Ahead Care has branched out into other services including Support services for Learning Disabilities, Mental Health as well as providing care and support services in a number of Extra Care Housing Schemes throughout Taunton Deane, Wellington and Sedgemoor.

In 2008 Way Ahead Care became a Strategic Partner for Bath & North East Somerset Council. Similar to 1994, an office was opened on the outskirts of Bath and we started looking after 1 individual and slowly built the service up to what it is today. In 2016 we started delivering Live-in Care throughout the South West. At its peak Way Ahead Care was employing over 300 people and caring for circa 650 individuals.

Pam retired in 2008. The company is now run by Pam’s son, Richard Smith with some help from his sister Carol Evans.
